Redesign/Tweaks

So the publisher didn't love my initial design (mostly because it doesn't quite work for the target audience) so I'm doing some redesigns, adding more color and cleaning some things up. Here's what I've got so far...

Connected World Book Cover

Here's a book cover I'm working on for an educational publisher. The book has to do with how children are educated in two worlds, the world of the classroom and the world of technology. No word yet on whether the publisher or authors like it so it's still a work in progress and feedback would be lovely. Too dark maybe?

The Final Monograph

After a bit more than a year of work, here it is, my final thesis project in book form. I took these photos really quickly just in an attempt to get them up and I'll be doing a proper photo shoot soon but I figured I'd put these up anyway, just to give an idea. This book was all hand bound, everything printed and then accordion folded with the gatefold and vellum inserts sewn in (in fact, due to the accordion nature of the book, every page was stitched together). The cover is cotton book cloth over a fairly heavy book board. If anyone is interested, I'll post some pictures of the details that's holding this whole together and talk about the process.

I'm having more copies of the book professionally printed for anyone that wants one and I'll post details here in a week or so. Hope you all like it.

Final table of contents

So here's what I'm thinking for the final table of contents. Hopefully this fixes some of the issues. Thoughts?

New TOC

So now that the page count of the thesis book is done, I redid the table of contents with new info and tried to clean up the design a bit. How do people like it? Clear? Good layout? Enough detail? I've been staring at it for so long I've lost perspective but I think color coding the bubbles to reflect the three main sections is a good idea. Comments?

Book Cover, halfway (I hope) done

Here's a cover I'm working on for a book about five families of Pakistani heritage with the underlying idea that objects all have a story behind them. I'm fairly happy with how the pieces are working together but I put the title in and realized Knockout is probably the wrong choice (though I like the distressing). Anyone have an idea of a good typeface that would be a better display face? Since the words are both long and a bit hard to read, I think it'd need to be fairly compressed. Handwritten maybe? I tried something handdrawn earlier and it didn't work but maybe it needs to be revisited on the label.... thanks.
