Book Cover, halfway (I hope) done

Here's a cover I'm working on for a book about five families of Pakistani heritage with the underlying idea that objects all have a story behind them. I'm fairly happy with how the pieces are working together but I put the title in and realized Knockout is probably the wrong choice (though I like the distressing). Anyone have an idea of a good typeface that would be a better display face? Since the words are both long and a bit hard to read, I think it'd need to be fairly compressed. Handwritten maybe? I tried something handdrawn earlier and it didn't work but maybe it needs to be revisited on the label.... thanks.

Trying to fix a spread

This is a spread I've been working on for a while, trying to get it right. The left and right hand pages open out for the gatefold of the bar behind it (hence the illustration side...) Anyone have a thought? Do the two pages work together?

Ad concept work

So I've been doing a lot of work for each of BBDO's clients recently, taking a provided word and then trying to encapsulate the essence of the brand in a single 22"x28" poster. Some have been great, some have missed the mark but I thought I'd put a couple up for people (or really anyone that's reading this...) to see. This one for GE was declined but I still like it.


And a couple others that they did go for.

Dinner party pages

Still working on creating a relationship with the images that are placed next to each other and getting the tatter to feel intimate and not decaying. The handwritten text are little stories about my early experiences with food in China, like little journal entries to give background on the images of Chinese food at the dinner party. Anyone have thoughts?

Final?

So, as I work on my book, I thought it'd be a good idea to continue working on my portfolio. So I've tried re-tweaking some of the text on this portfolio. Anyone have any thoughts? Type look tight? I'm planning on printing it out full size, holding it up myself and photographing it for the portfolio and trying to make it as good as possible before I do that. If anyone sees this, feedback would be great. Thanks.

The last of the "transition pages." I feel like, if these work, they'll be nice...trying to reiterate that idea of connection. Since the book starts off with all these colored lines going all over the place, and then they gradually become clearer patterns, I think there's a nice transition happening. And in this case, trying to transition from all these interest topics (city, art, food) to the "me" icon. Does that come across? Maybe it needs to be seen in context.

But in generally, right now I'm writing. There's a lot of writing to be done in this book.

Jenny's Cover

I'm working on a book cover for Teachers College Press right now and was hoping to get a little feedback. The book is about a girl who didn't quite fit into the mold of the elementary school system of a diverse, urban school. She had some bumps along the way, hence the slightly creased paper theme. I've gone through a bunch of iterations and this is kind of where I am. I originally was working with the title above her head (or perhaps on top and behind her head...) but it felt like it was pressing down on her. I'm not entirely comfortable with the placement of all the elements, and am still tweaking but thought I'd put it up. I'm not sure people are still checking out blogs but just in case, feedback would be lovely. Thanks.
