Evolution of a cover

Oops. Forgot the subtitle. Plus some tweaking of the type...

Redesign

So evidently the author didn't love the apple design and pushed for a wrecking ball image. (Publishing house thought the apple was borderline too agressive but liked it, author thought the smashed apple wasn't agressive enough). So here's where we are now. Something about the text is not perfect for me yet but I have probably been staring at it a bit too much for objectivity anyway.

So the publishers thought the burned edges were a little confusing so I gave them some more variations. Here are a couple. Still waiting on word if they liked any of them.

The Assault on Public Schools

Just started working on a new book cover. Since a few of my last covers were possibly a bit too abstract, I'm going for something clear and graphic. Need to make that apple pop a little more and the burned edges need refining but hopefully we're moving in the right direction. (and ha ha, couldn't help but use Century Schoolbook for a book on schools).

New website

So after a few weeks of tweaking and painfully writing code, I'm pleased to say the redesign of my website is done. So while this blog will continue to be the place where I toss up works in progress, final pieces (those that I'm happy with at least) will get posted to my website. This includes the final three Quiet Lights posters so if you're interested, check them out there. I hope you'll take a look and like what you see.

Third Quiet Lights Poster

So for the other posters, I started with the illustrations and frames for the copy and then added the type treatment. This one I started with the type (obviously in a very different style) and then started integrating the other elements I wanted. While this isn't finished by any means, I'm actually happier with it than some of the others, but for different reasons. Now I have to figure out how to marry the three since I think the styles might be a little too disparate.
